This work is part of a series of “dust” drawings that are intended to be in dialogue with photographs from my old home in Luoyang, China, as well as an audiovisual poem and written text. These drawings do not have text-based titles, as each photograph in the installation is intended to engage with the drawing as a wall text — the title in parentheses is only one possible title. This body of work was the product of my journey from Beijing to Luoyang by train last winter — my first time visiting my hometown in twenty years and seeing how much the countryside of my childhood had been developed and how frail my grandparents had become.
